Granada - Spain

The Soul of Andalusia

After our short, incredibly successful and some might say, epic cultural extravaganza in the heart of Connemara last September, I have decided to run an equivalent cultural immersion in one of my favourite writing spots in the world, Granada, Spain. Granada has been very good to me over the years with a fine body of writing having come from my sojourns there.

The streets of Granada carry a current of music, song, dance and poetic fire very similar to the inherited spirit of Ireland. The arts here are not for tourists: they represent a living powerful essence pleasing nothing but itself and the equally powerful tradition from which it comes.

Walking through the warren-like streets of the Albaicín you can hear flamenco music being practised and even the patter of the dancers’ feet issuing from balconies and doorways almost every day and night of the year.

Mornings will be sessions with David, lunch taken together, then afternoons for walks and talks in the city or countryside. Our early evenings will be with Spanish music, dance and cultural educators and your late evenings left to yourself to explore the restaurants and bars for which Granada is justifiably renowned. The tour includes one extended tour of the Alhambra, by night, preferably, if we can arrange it.
