I've been participating in Three Sundays for awhile now. Your work has shown me how to "hold a different conversation" with life and has helped me move through grief to find my self again. Thank you.
MOVING BEYOND THE POWER OF NOW:
Making a new friendship with our past, finding a wilder freedom in the present, while preparing for a rich and inviting future.
Eckhart Tolle’s ‘Power of Now’ has been helpful to many people around the planet but our generally accepted interpretation of the ‘Now’ can be deeply misleading on several counts and in many ways has created a puritanical approach to our multi layered reality that has many people who fall short of a pure and exclusive relationship with the ‘Now’, having just one more thing to feel guilty about.
The most misleading legacy of Eckhart Tolle might be in the phrase ‘The present is all we have’. Besides the fact that indigenous cultures, (most especially the Irish) and hard-nosed particle physicists and even historians would beg to differ, our actual personal experience of the past is that it is a living thing, not something just to be discarded, that it may indeed, like us, get stuck and paralyzed but that our past also matures and changes according to the way we simultaneously inhabit the present and from that place, look to the horizon of our future.
Join David Whyte for what might be a more merciful and helpful perspective on the ‘Now’ – one that helps us keep our precious memories, put them in conversation with our present, open up the future horizon, while not asking us to choose between those three astonishing, necessary and abiding qualities.
‘Now’ by itself is always an impoverishment : ‘now’ in conversation with the way the past lives and breathes inside us and the way our future can sometimes be a beautiful, ravishing and inviting stranger, always leads us into extraordinary territory and extraordinary relationships. Holding all three qualities of past, present and future might be a more accurate, and a more realistic and a more consoling understanding that enables us to live a life that might be more easily reached and more possible for all of us.

During each session, we will open the Zoom Q&A column where anyone can submit a comment or question. David will take select questions during the last fifteen minutes of the session.
Due to the limited time, we cannot answer every question live, but David does enjoy reading all the comments after the session is closed, and on occasion is able to answer additional questions there.
